Read what the Seller has to say about the time she has owned this property: "Windhorse Ranch began in 1999 when Twitter Creek ranch was purchased with 150 acres, from original owners, Pete and Franci Roberts, who had settled the property and developed it as a multipurpose ranch in the 70's, living there full time and raising their son, for over 17 years. It sat fallow for around 10 years with a renter or two. The original cabin was constructed from logs from the Anchor River schoolhouse and added to- the back room and bedroom loft. The well was drilled by geologists while taking soil samples, in an agreement with the Roberts. When we bought the property, it had a 5 acre homesite that housed the main cabin, in very basic and long empty state. The rustic cabin was a one room and there was a small, outdoor bathhouse/sauna building. The large barn had just fallen down as well as a few sheds. There was a plethora of stashed supplies around the property as well as discarded appliances, barrels and other. We loved it and were not daunted by this long term project. We began remodeling and the building of the garden cabin, from a kit recently improved by industrious tenants. The rustic cabin also was doubled in size by another tenant. More outhouses were built so each cabin had their own, as they were always rented by people that loved living there, most working in town year round. The main cabin, between 1999 and 2016, went through several changes, including moving the kitchen area to open up the space, the shower room created inside as well as that room insulated from the rest of the cabin for utility freeze proofing. The manifolds for directing water were installed and everything can be isolated so only that room can be heated if the property is left for a time, or now drained. The manifold directs water to the main cabin and to the outside shower house and now, there is water to the garden cabin and greenhouse, as well, with heat tape and under cabin valves to prevent freezing. All of the plumbing has been replaced with lines that cannot break if they freeze and the main cabin has the controls to drain these lines. The refrigerator was kept in the back room for cooling and the dishwasher was installed in the new cabinetry where the new electric ports are partially connected. There was a new gray water septic installed in 2011 along with this project and an electric toilet in the utility room. A composting toilet would be ideal though a septic could be installed if wanted. The electric system was in process of being and a new line was installed which comes up under the floor to the new box in the utility room rerouted to the utility. It was not a safely issue, it was just a new plan to make the utility room the hub of water and power. We built the addition and the back greenhouse roof design deck in 2010. It was designed to be able to be separate from the main cabin and also was able at the timto be closed off with a dutch door and the old windows, all now removed from next owners 2016 until 2018, as well as the hatch to the upper main bedroom. Flooring to match the addition was installed in the main cabin, also stripped to plywood by the new owners, as well as the new cabinetry where the refrigerator is now placed. anch! The ranch thrived as a full time home to my family, 4 Icelandic horses, goats and chickens, geese and ducks. All were pets as I had a "no-kill" policy. The moose would often come in to protect their babies while young. The huge rock out of the front in the field was explained by the geologist as an anomaly and only one 3' similar rock has been found 20 miles out East End. It is told that it was formed by magma, attracted the crystals embedded in it and dropped there by a retreating glacier. There is also a spring 1/2 way down the drive that supplies extra water, year round. At first, we didn't know the Borough plowed the road as it was a part time home at that time, people would snow machine or ski in. With that snow pack, the breakup would take 3-4 weeks typically. Now with regular plowing (when snow reaches 6"), and the warming cycle, it may take 2-3 weeks in a typical year, during which time, we walk in and out to our vehicles parked at the head of Easterday Rd., as well as if there are heavy rains in the fall. The Borough also maintains the road and grates it in the summer when it is dry. It's important to keep people off the road during those times to prevent poor drainage and potholes. In the 9 years of my full time living here, there were gatherings, weddings and retreats of all kinds- writers, artists, flower essences, healing modalities, horsemanship all enjoyed the special creative energy that the land shares. During that time, as well as retreats, renters came and went, and all added to Windhorse Ranch, in skills and spirit. It was a magical time that was transformative for all and the lifestyle is very nurturing and wondrous with the moderate climate, views of the ocean and volcanos. During my time, there was beautiful furniture, rugs, books and a real feeling of comfort. I had home exchange guests from around the world guests that gave great reviews about the feeling in the cabins, and loved spending time at the ranch. I had Woofer volunteers from many countries that would bring their tents, work the property together, gardening, cooking, helping with any and all chores needed to make improvements and keep things running and loving their time spent there, sometimes coming back the next season.
